The vanilla sector in Uganda has also seen a significant increase in production over the past three years, potentially exceeding 300 metric tons in 2023. The quality of Ugandan vanilla has improved dramatically, often surpassing equivalent grades from Madagascar in vanillin content and flavor profile. Despite these advancements, the global market response has been lukewarm, with a surplus looming over the Ugandan vanilla market. This situation underscores the need for a competitive balance in the global vanilla trade, with Uganda well-positioned to challenge Madagascar’s dominance if supported appropriately​​.
